Let’s make Prestwood Bloom together!

Prestwood Community Association (PCA) invites residents, businesses and groups within Prestwood to join in developing our exciting ‘Bloom’ initiative.

This is a multi-year project that all residents can join, with no particular gardening experience required. At this stage, in year one, PCA is putting in the foundations for what we aspire to be an ongoing programme which will make Prestwood’s residents proud.

Why ‘Bloom’?

At our launch in October, we explained our wish to be part of:

  • a community with a holistic vision for all residents and stakeholders;
  • a village that values and cares for its local environment;
  • an energised community, engaging, connecting, volunteering;
  • a forward-looking community.

The Q&A session was then dominated by questions of what PCA can do to help engage younger residents. We also know, from previous surveys, that a key desire of Prestwood’s inhabitants is to protect and enhance our surroundings and environment.

Our ‘Bloom’ vision, developed successfully, can deliver all these goals, and more.

The example of Amersham in Bloom, national winners of ‘Britain in Bloom’ in 2022, shows the very positive impact of working as a community. Their success has been built on volunteers of all ages, the involvement of schools, businesses and community groups, and with younger members of the community regularly to the fore.

Planting up common spaces or areas of significant usage, just making our surroundings more pleasant, can promote greater ‘feel good’, and pride in our surroundings. As a starter, look out for planters and schemes appearing around the village!

And what can be more forward looking than projects and planting to emphasise sustainability and better care of our environment?

Of course, it will take time to create the sort of impact to which we aspire. It will also require shared ideas, expertise, joined-up thinking and massive enthusiasm from volunteers. But it CAN be done!
