Working for our Village

Prestwood Community Association (PCA)’s goal is to make Prestwood a better place to live and work for all.

By working with residents, groups, businesses and organisations, we wish to be part of a community which shares visions and ideas for a strong, caring, happy and resilient village. And, of course, works together to execute them.

Common factors of PCA’s work are that projects should be relevant to most demographics, offer opportunities for broad participation and volunteering, and have scope to be built on in future years.

Our main focus in 2025 is built around the following projects:

  • Bloom: promoting greater ‘feel good’, and pride in our surroundings, mainly by use of planting. Success would see involvement of volunteers of all ages, participation of schools, businesses and community groups, and ideally with younger residents regularly to the fore.

  • Prestwood’s Big Week: a varied series of events, culminating on Saturday 21st June with a main get-together on the Common.
  • A survey of residents, expected launch in spring/early summer. However tired we may be of surveys, this will be an important one. It will help ensure that the PCA’s work is in line with the longer-term needs and desires of the community. Having evidence of what residents want will also help when approaching potential funders.
  • Community Safety: seeking to promote a more resilient community, working with Thames Valley Neighbourhood Police, Community Speedwatch, Neighbourhood Watch and others.

Volunteering

PCA has a dedicated Committee of volunteers, and links with many other local groups. Our overall commitment to Prestwood is clear.

The extent of our ambition is limited mainly by numbers of volunteers. We have many possibilities for residents to participate. From joining the Committee, leading one of our activities, to joining a working group, to giving time to a specific project, volunteering can take many different forms, with differing time commitments.
