Sunday 4th October saw a fantastic transformation carried out on the hedge separating Sheepwash Pond from Honor End Lane. This follows on from earlier volunteer clear-ups organised by PCA. This exercise feels like a big step forward in the longer term aspiration to restore Sheepwash as a well-loved historical landmark and natural amenity.
PCA arranged for the Chiltern Society‘s Rough around the Hedges to attend with a team of trained volunteers.
The plan was to lay the 33m length of hedge, staked and bound, ‘South of England style’. In preparation, the hedge had been allowed to grow untrimmed throughout 2026.
A thoroughly professional job was achieved within one day. Maintained properly, this should be good for years, whilst also providing an excellent habitat for wildlife.

Residents – beware the Dangers of the Pond
As explained in earlier news posts, ownership of the Sheepwash Pond site is unknown, and with it, clarity on responsibility. Whilst PCA is happy to coordinate works, it will NOT assume legal responsibility for the site.
The pond is deep in parts and very overgrown. But in particular, the dilapidated viewing platform in the pond is UNSAFE and MUST not be used.
